This letter is an endorsement of the Faith in Violence Free Families project from the Fremont Chief of Police and SAVE Board Member.

April 14, 2006

Dear Faith Community Leader and/or Community Violence Prevention Advocate:

It is our belief that faith leaders and domestic violence prevention advocates make powerful allies. With this understanding, the Faith in Violence-Free Families: Building Partnerships for Change (FVFF) Project invites you to join your fellow community members at a workshop designed to strengthen the connections between faith leaders and violence prevention advocates, in the effort to prevent family violence.

We appreciate the unique position both faith leaders and domestic violence prevention advocates hold within this community, and see each as an integral player in the call to bridge the intersection between faith and family violence. Among domestic violence prevention professionals it is acknowledged that the faith community plays a key role in preventing and intervening in domestic violence.

Funded by the California Department of Health Services, Epidemiology and Prevention for Injury Control Branch, the FVFF project offers regional workshops on the meeting point of faith and domestic violence. These ground breaking workshops are taking place in communities state-wide, including locally in Fremont, California at the Fremont Family Resource Center on June 1 and June 3, 2006. Please see the attached flyer for more information. We invite you to join us as we become members of this movement to create safety in our community.

We hope that you will accept this invitation to attend one or both workshops being held in Fremont which are organized in partnership with SEMAH Inc., a local violence prevention organization and cosponsored by SAVE (Safe Alternatives to Violent Environments). Please fill out and return the attached registration forms to the address on the form or you can email the information to info@semah.org. Please contact S. Reshma Yunus, TC-TAT FVFF Workshop Facilitator, with any questions or requests for assistance at 510-659-8545 or through email at info@semah.org.

We look forward to partnering with you in promoting the prevention of domestic violence throughout our faith communities of California.

Sincerely,

Craig Steckler
Fremont Chief of Police and SAVE Board Member
